'King-O-Lawn' Edger pt 2
Well, some depressing news. After a full day with my Dad, cleaning the tank, the carburetor, and a first for us both, a starter cord string, We were unable to get it running. We were ready to try it when we realized there was no spark. We looked at everything electrical, finally coming to a conclusion. It was the coil. I'm a kid without much money, so I wasn't going to invest money into it. But like my other rebuilds, I will save the piston. Only if it doesn't get running. I've got some sparks up my cylinder...

'King-O-Lawn' Edger pt 1
Yesterday, the 21st, My Dad and I were going to smog our RV. On the way there, there was a garage sale with a 1962 King-O-Lawn 3horsepower Briggs and Stratton edger. After we got home, we went to take a look. It was only five dollars! The owner said, 'Oh it ran great! Now it just won't start. It only needs a tune up!' I could tell it needed ALOT more than a tune up. The pull cord was stuck out, it was covered in spider webs. What did we do? We handed her $5 and pushed the edger home. Just the sounds it made when it was rolling! I love that squeaking and wobblieness of the tire! Anyway, once we got it home, My Dad and I took a look at it. The throttle was stuck, the choke was siezed rope wouldn't retract. This piece of junk needed some TLC.

The Engine
Hello, It's Andrew! Today I will tell you how an engine works. The main part of an engine is the PISTON. there are different models and sizes of engines so a piston generally looks like this:

The piston is cased in a CYLINDER The cylinder looks like this:
This is upside down.
Gas is regulated into an engine by a CARBURETOR. It looks like this:
In the cylinder, gas is let in through VALVES. the gas is ignited by a SPARK PLUG It looks like this:
When you pull the string on a lawn mower, it turns the engine, swing with the piston(s) are 4 magnets. 2 are spinning on a wheel and 2 are stationary. This is called a MAGNETO. When the magnets go past each other, it creates electricity, this electricity travels through a wire to the spark plug. This spark ignites the gas creating an explosion, shoving the piston down in the cylinder. This force brings it back up and when the magnets fly past each other, the cycle starts again.
At the bottom of the page is a more detailed video of how a 4 stroke and 2 stroke engine works.

Welcome!
Hello! This is Andrew. This is Andrew's Tool Shed! I love tools, engines, fixing what isn't working, etc. It's just that I don't feel like I'm getting anywhere with it. So, I've decided to start a blog about all the things I do and of what is in my shed. Yes, this is Rosedude23 and my other blogs have been clunkers, but this one is for something that I really love! So If I get to 10 followers, I will consider it a success! When I'm out in the garage or starting up the engines in the shed, There is always someone right next to me, my little puppy Stella She is half Cocker, half Dachshund. (I sure hope I spelled that right!) She's my little buddy! Anyway, almost every day when I'm in my shed, I discover something new, Whether it be yet ANOTHER engine or an old motor. I only wish it were organized! It's actually not my shed, It's my Dad's who is the same as me with stuff like that. So, I see that I keep getting off topic, so that's all for now! You can comment with any questions or just anything to say. Check back soon, my next post will be on how the simple, well, not so simple, engine works!
